The team at Turra Physio Therapy are experts in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of golf players and golf related injuries. We are lucky enough to benefit from the skills and experience of Ross Conniffe-Jones, former physiotherapist for members of the Militaries Tri-Services Golf teams and has over the past 20 years treated many amateur players as well.
We offer a ‘Golf Screening’, designed for injury prevention and performance enhancement. After all we’d much rather treat you to maintain and enhance your fitness rather than treat you after an avoidable injury!
Sixty million golfers around the world play golf. Golf injuries are most frequently located in the spine, hip, elbow, wrist, hand and shoulder. Those injuries are often seen in golfers with more playing hours and suboptimal swing biomechanics, resulting in overuse injuries. Golfers who do not perform a warm-up or do not warm-up appropriately are more likely to report an injury than those who do.
The golf swing is considered one of the most difficult movements in sports. To perform a golf swing, there is a powerful action required with rapid force generation. Therefore, large rotational forces are transferred to the golf ball with compression loads on the lower spine up to 7–8 times body weight.
This requires the player to have the mobility and strength to perform the power elements, but also the balance and control capabilities to produce the skill required to succeed.
Golf related injuries we treat and rehabilitate successfully every day at our clinic include:
Shoulder impingement (rotator cuff impingement/tendonitis/tear)
Shoulder instability/subluxation or dislocation
Sub-acromial bursitis
SLAP lesions of the shoulder labrum
Scapular dyskinesis (muscle imbalance)
Neck pain (facet joint and soft tissue dysfunction)
Thoracic outlet syndrome
Thoracic spine and rib pain
Medial knee pain (MCL, medial meniscus injuries)
Patella tendon injuries/tendonitis
Patello-femoral joint (knee cap) pain
Hip impingement/Labral tears of the hip
Hip flexor injuries/tendonitis
